rules of the game: part two

attribute traits continued...

In order to enter into a "Challenge" (discussed later) you must bid an appropriate trait. You could "Quickly" kick someone in the junk. You could not however, "Handsomely" remember a scripture from the Bible.
LotW:R 72 & 167
FaF 224

Up, Down, Bonus, Penalty...
Most MET books do not mention such things as these where it concerns traits in any manour of definition.
"Up X Traits" means you have X Bonus Traits
FaF 227
"X Traits Down" means you must Risk X additional traits when risking traits.
LotW:R 72
FaF 226
"X Bonus Traits" means when Declaring your Current Trait Max, you add X
Note: You cannot Risk Bonus Traits as it is not possible to justify "I am Bonus enough to kick you in the junk"
LotW:R 170
FaF 226
"X Trait Penalty" means when Declaring your Current Trait Max, you subtract X

Ability Traits

A character's Ability Traits represent some knowlege, talent, or skill which they have some understanding in. An ability is used for a "Retest" in a challenge. (discussed later)
FaF 106
LotW:2 42
LotW:R 72

These are reflected by the expenditure of one XP and the placing of a word which gives a vague description of the capabilities which are reflected.

LotW:R 173

Each level represents a different level of comprehension.
0 Traits: No comprehension whatsoever to
"the complete idiots guide for dummies" comprehension.
1 Traits: Competent (able to earn a living)
2 Traits: Professional (licensed, capable of supervision)
3 Traits: Journeyman (bachelor's degree or instructor)
4 Traits: Expert (master's degree or researcher)
5 Traits: Master (doctorate or true innovator)

Background Traits

Background Traits help to flesh out things that are not inherant in your character's being. people your character knows, stuff you have, your lineage ...are all backgrounds.
LotW:R 87
LotW:2 48
FaF 114

These are reflected by the expenditure of one XP and the placing of a word which gives a vague description of the capabilities which are reflected.

LotW:R 173

Rage Gnosis and Willpower all cost 3 XP. Character Creation or otherwise... 3 XP.
LotW:R 173

Wow... I could keep going with this, however... it is time to detail tests and challenges.

Next post soon to come!

EDIT:
Negative Traits (negs): Negs are applicable to a Challenge because if one is guessed correctly at the onset of a Challenge, a Player must Risk an additional Trait for each Neg guessed correctly. Conversely, if a Neg is guessed incorrectly, the person guessing need Risk an additional Trait for each guessed. If either Player does not have the Trait to Risk after the determining of validity of the negs, they immediately lose the Challenge.
FaF 228

(...and now for the version of Negative Traits that makes little sense.)
Negs are applicable to a Challenge because if one is guessed correctly at the onset of a Challenge, a Player must Risk an additional Trait for each Neg guessed correctly. Conversely, if a Neg is guessed incorrectly, the person guessing need Risk an additional Trait for each guessed. If either Player does not have a Trait to Risk, the player who did not have the trait grants the other player an X trait bonus for each trait they lack.
